Chapter One

Days 1–3

Porto

Tiled streets, river views and old-world character, followed by a full day in Portugal’s legendary Douro wine country.

Your First Evening in Porto

Arrive in Porto and settle into the first of three hotel bases. Your Tour Captain is there to make introductions, help the group find its footing and turn an unfamiliar neighborhood into somewhere that already feels approachable.

A gentle Discovery Walk reveals the streets, viewpoints and useful landmarks near the hotel without overfilling arrival day. The evening remains relaxed, with your Tour Captain ready to suggest a first taste of Porto.

Day 2

Porto’s Stories Behind the Tiles

Explore Porto’s historic heart with an expert local guide. At São Bento Station, blue-and-white azulejos turn a working railway hall into a public history book. Continue through streets shaped by the city’s hills toward Porto Cathedral, the Church of São Francisco, viewpoints and the atmosphere of the Ribeira.

The guide provides context from the exterior at ticketed landmarks unless admission is specifically confirmed in your proposal. Later, the pace opens: choose a café, cross the river, browse local shops or follow your own curiosity through the city.

Day 3

Where the Vineyards Meet the River

Leave Porto by arranged transportation and watch the landscape change as the Douro narrows between slopes shaped into vineyard terraces. This is not simply a tasting stop: it is a full-day encounter with a cultural landscape where river, schist, sun and generations of work meet.

At a winery, learn how place and tradition influence the wines before an included guided tasting. The specific estate and final timing are confirmed for each departure, while the essential experience—transportation, vineyard scenery, a winery visit and tasting—remains part of the Journey.

Days 4–8

Óbidos & Lisbon

One memorable night behind Óbidos’ walls, followed by three Lisbon nights of tiled neighborhoods, maritime history and river light.

An overnight in Óbidos creates time for its quieter evening character and an unhurried morning. Three Lisbon nights then let the capital open in layers through guided discovery and time to follow your own interests.

Day 4

Óbidos, After the Day Visitors Have Gone

Travel south by included private group transportation and arrive in Óbidos as the town begins to quiet. After hotel check-in, join a local guide for a late-afternoon walk through whitewashed lanes, intimate squares and the story held within the medieval walls.

This evening, gather for an included hosted Welcome Dinner. Staying overnight changes the encounter: the lanes soften, the pace slows and Óbidos feels less like a stop and more like a place briefly shared.

Day 5

An Unhurried Morning in Óbidos

Wake inside or near the medieval walls with the morning free to follow your own pace. Revisit a favorite lane, browse small shops as they open or linger over coffee before the town becomes busy again.

Later, continue by included private group transportation to Lisbon. After hotel check-in, your Tour Captain leads a relaxed Discovery Walk that introduces the neighborhood and makes the capital immediately approachable.

Day 6

Lisbon and the Age of Discovery

Meet Lisbon in layers with an expert local guide: grand squares, distinctive tiled architecture, historic neighborhoods and viewpoints that reveal the city’s relationship with the Tagus. Continue to Belém, where monuments connect Portuguese maritime ambition with the wider and more complicated history of global expansion.

Jerónimos Monastery and Belém Tower are interpreted from the exterior unless paid admission is specifically confirmed in your proposal. The afternoon remains intentionally open for a museum, riverfront wandering, shopping or a long lunch of your own choosing.

Day 7

Your Lisbon, Your Way

This day belongs to you. Stay in Lisbon for neighborhoods, viewpoints, museums, shops and an unhurried meal, with your Tour Captain ready to shape suggestions around your interests and energy.

Or choose the optional Sintra experience at additional cost, with the palace or estate, transportation, admissions and timing confirmed in your personalized proposal. A Farewell Dinner is planned for the final evening, with arrangements confirmed in your proposal.

Day 8

Until We Meet Again, Portugal

After breakfast and hotel check-out, the eight-day Portugal Signature Journey concludes in Lisbon. Continue with your independently arranged departure plans; airport transportation is not included.

Guests who have separately booked the optional Algarve extension continue south according to the extension arrangements in their confirmed proposal. The extension is not included in the base Journey price.
