Wherever it applies, specific guidelines for American travelers are provided below, in harmony or possibly in addition to any of Journey’s specific requirements.

Specific to Italy: Requirements for Entry

As of March 2022 —

Firstly, you will need to complete the PLF Passenger Locator Form:

The following information came from Italy government website:

Fulfilments for entry to Italy

Measures valid until April 30, 2022

As of March 1, 2022, you can enter without quarantine. In addition to filling out the Passenger Locator Form (always required) you will only need to hold a Green Pass certifying vaccination, recovery from the disease or negative COVID-19 test.

In detail, to enter or re-enter Italy from any foreign country, you need to:

  1. Fill out the Passenger Locator Form before entering Italy. The document must be shown to the carrier or whoever is in charge of departure checks. If you don't have adequate technological means, you can download the printed version of the Passenger Locator Form.
  2. Show the EU Digital COVID Certificate or - for non-EU citizens - an equivalent green COVID-19 certification issued by your country's health authorities, certifying one of the following: completed vaccination cycle with a vaccine recognized by the European Medicines Agency (EMA); full recovery from COVID-19; negative molecular or antigenic test.

Those who, upon entry into Italy, do not show this documentation, can still enter but will have to undergo fiduciary quarantine for 5 days at the address specified in the Passenger Locator Form and inform the Department of Health Prevention competent for the area (see the page: COVID-19 Toll-free numbers and regional information). At the end of the 5-day quarantine period, you will need to perform additional molecular or antigenic testing.

As of August 31, 2021 —  The following travel requirements are mandated by the Italian government, and are absolutely applicable to all Now Journey guests without any exceptions. Make note, these requirements could change at any time and it is the responsibility of the traveler to ensure they have complied with all necessary requirements.

NEWS: In accordance with Prime Ministerial Decree of March 2, 2021, Order of July 29, 2021 and Order of August 28, 2021 of the Minister of Health, people who have stayed in or transited through Countries in List D (USA) in the 14 days prior to entering Italy must:

  3. and take a molecular or antigenic test, carried out by means of a swab and with negative result, in the 72 hours before they arriveChildren under the age of six are exempted from carrying out the molecular or antigen test.

In case of lack of vaccination travelers may still enter Italy but they must:

  • fill out a digital Passenger Locator Form
  • take a molecular or antigenic test, carried out by means of a swab and with negative result, in the 72 hours before they arrive.
  • Still self-isolate for five (5) days, activating local health surveillance procedures by informing Local Health Authorities.
  • and get tested again, upon completing the prescribed self-isolation.

Also, please note that use of the Green Pass ( for US travelers the equivalent is the White CDC paper vaccination card ) remains mandatory for entrance to museums, indoor restaurants, bars, clubs, etc.

The Italian government announced on Thursday, July 22, 2021, that it would require people to show proof of vaccination or a recent negative test in order to participate in certain social activities, including indoor dining, visiting museums and attending shows. France also recently enacted this requirement.

UPDATE: Now Journey to require full vaccination effective Augsut 31, 2021. All Journey Adventure Leaders, and onboard staff and guides are vaccinated.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Happens If I Am Stopped At An Airport Prior To Arriving My Destination?

Answer: You as the traveler are responsible for arriving at the point of origin of the Now Journey tour. Any delays of your arrival to the point of origin of the tour should be considered now before you travel by researching travel cancellation and interruption insurance coverage. Now Journey is not responsible for any delays prior to the trip commencement and no refunds will be provided.

What Happens If I Contract COVID-19 While On Tour?

Answer: The health of each guest is entirely the guest's responsibility, and therefore the guest will need to seek treatment on their own arrangements separate and apart from Now Journey. The guest agrees to immediately leave the Now Journey tour/group to seek treatment, quarantine or the appropriate action deemed necessary by local mandate or by Now Journey. Now Journey will assist with any needed land transfers from where the accommodation of the tour group is based; the guest will be responsible for the cost of the land transfers. ALERT: Now Journey recommends some type of travel cancellation and interruption insurance coverage. It is entirely the guest’s responsibility to conduct due diligence to ensure they are protected for every possible health or travel scenario.

Do You Need To Get A Covid Test To Return To The States?

Answer: Yes. This could change should the US Government change its requirements. Always check with the US State Department ( and CDC websites.

As of publishing this document, August 2, 2021, all guests need a PCR or Antigen test to return to the United States. This is currently mandatory regardless of whether you are vaccinated.

When Should You Get Your COVID-19 Test In Italy When Returning To The USA?

Answer: Day before your departure before noon.

We are recommending a day prior at a red cross-site or a private clinic. The airport works, but this will add extra stress on the day of departure. The Antigen test has to be taken within 3 days of flight departure.

Do I Have To Schedule My Test In Advance?

Answer: Now Journey will schedule your test in advance at any clinic where it is advised to do so — this means some testing may not have advanced reservations. Your final tour documents along with your Journey Adventure Leader will detail the re-entry testing plan for your Journey.

The airport tests do NOT require an appointment though we recommend getting tested before you get to the airport to avoid potential stress.

What Is The Cost Of A COVID Test In Italy?

Answer: Free to 100€ with the average of 20€ – 35€. Now Journey is charging $45.00 USD for the testing appointment.
